This piece of pottery was hand-molded by Doña Sofía Reyes and is another excellent example of her artistic talents. Doña Sofía Reyes has been making pottery for over 75 years and continues to create her pottery utilizing the same artistic techniques of her Zapotec ancestors. This specific piece of black-clay pottery was molded then the lovely flower pattern was lightly stenciled/carved into the base of the piece. After being molded and decorated, the piece was fired in a traditional wood burning underground kiln. This piece was fired in the kiln for many hours to give it the strength to hold water. Unlike other pieces of pottery by Doña Sofía Reyes that are only intended for decoration, this piece is both beautiful and functional.
This piece of black-clay pottery measures 8" Tall and 4" Wide. It is safe to put water in this vase, it is made for holding water and flowers as well as being decorative.
