This hand-carved mask was created by the Ashanti artist Kofi Acheampong of Ghana. Although this mask resembles an "alien face", to many Ghanaians this mask actually represents life after death. Many people of traditional tribal cultures in Ghana practice beliefs that every person transforms into a different creature after death. This "Alien Face" mask represents a transformed deceased person. This Alien Face Mask is particularly special because it was carved from wood of the Mahogany tree, which is the most durable tree and creates the hardest and most beautiful wooden sculptures. The Mahogany tree can be found primarily in southern Ghana.
This mask measures 10" Long x 4.5" Wide x 2" Thick.
