  
This awe-inspiring hand-carved mask was created by Kofi Acheampong, who is a descendant of the Ashanti tribe from Ghana. This large mask with the Sankofa bird inscription on the forehead is made out of Teak tree, which is largely found in the southern part of sub-Saharan Africa. This large mask with the Sankofa Bird symbol, which is a traditional Ghanaian symbol symbol... the bird has an egg in its mouth but looks behind itself... the egg represents the future, and looking behind itself represents the past. The lesson that the Sankofa Bird teaches us is that, "To make the most of your future, you must understand your past."
