This piece of pottery was hand-molded by Doña Sofía Reyes and is another excellent example of her artistic talents. Doña Sofía Reyes has been making pottery for over 75 years and continues to create her pottery utilizing the same artistic techniques of her Zapotec ancestors. This specific piece of black-clay pottery was molded then the lovely flowers that cover the exterior of the vase were added. Each flower, petal and stem are all additional pieces of clay that were molded and shaped then attached to the originally molded pot, this method provides for the 3-dimensional flowers that adourn this vase. After being molded and decorated, the piece was fired in an old wood burning underground kiln.
