  
 This beaded necklace was created by Mahama Zuruka an artisan of the Ga tribal culture from Ghana. Decorated with five large black clay beads that are each intricately carved with tribal patterns. This necklace is an excellent example of traditional African style and artwork.
For centuries, all across Africa, beads have been prized both as ornament and as forms of currency. A person’s wealth and status has always been associated with the size and number of beads worn. In some tribes, beads and beaded jewelry make up the bridal dowry; in others they are used as currency, and in still others beads are believed to have magical powers.
