This traditional bark cloth painting entitled "Uganda's Big Three" was created by artist Gerrald Kabuye from Uganda. Gerrald painted this portrait of two giraffes, two water bucks, two adults and a baby elephant. Gerrald painted this portrait with orange, white and black colors because of his artistic design to bring out the natural tones of bark cloth. Each animal overlaps the others and it seems that they are sharing each others bodies; Gerrald did this to symbolize the inter-connectedness and dependency of all natural life upon one another. The giraffe, the water buck, and the elephant all in different ways depend on one another for their survival. Additionally, Gerralds unique use of complimentary and off-setting colors is done to represent the two sexes of each animal.
Artist Gerrald Kabuye paints many of his portraits to depict the wildlife of Uganda which is so important to the country's image and are often used to represent his homeland. The giraffe, the water buck, and the elephant are three of the most popular animals in Uganda and this painting represents the importance of these animals to the country's national identity.
This large sized bark cloth painting measures 30.5" long and 13.5" wide. This is a wonderfully unique, traditional, and originally hand-signed by the artist 'Kabuye' painting that will look absolutely amazing in a simple black frame.
