This traditional bark cloth painting entitled "Village Drum Dance" is a creation of the artist Gerrald Kabuye from Uganda. Gerrald painted this portrait with orange, white and black colors because of his artistic design to compliment the natural tones of bark cloth. Gerrald has painted two men playing traditional engoma drums while another plays a long engalabi drum between his legs and the women dance wearing customary ekinsens skirts of raffia grass (note the white 'feathers' around their waists). There are also other traditional Ugandan musical instruments present at this party that aren't being played and those are the pair of adungus (the stringed arched bow harp) in the corners of the portrait and the large hollowed out gourd called a calabash on the ground before them. Each villager is dressed in colorful and traditional clothing, and the different curved lines that Gerrald painted within this portrait are meant to illustrate movement and rhythm while also symbolizes unity and togetherness amongst the villagers. Artist Gerrald Kabuye paints many of his portraits to depict traditional Ugandan villagers and in this painting Gerrald illustrates a typical musical celebration taking place in a hut village.

This large sized bark cloth painting measures 31" long and 14" wide. This is a wonderfully unique, traditional, and originally hand-signed by the artist 'Kabuye' painting that will look absolutely amazing in a simple black frame.
