This traditional bark cloth painting entitled "Traditions of Motherhood" is a creation of the artist Gerrald Kabuye from Uganda. Gerrald painted this portrait with orange, white and black colors because of his artistic desire to compliment the natural tones of the bark cloth. Each woman is dressed in colorful and traditional clothing, and Gerrald takes his artistic creativity one step further by sewing actual cloth into this portrait to cloth the mothers in lovely floral dresses.

Artist Gerrald Kabuye paints many of his portraits to depict traditional Ugandan women because of the prominent role of the woman in the fabric of the family and society of Ugandan culture. In this particular painting, Gerrald illustrates the strong tradition of motherhood present within Ugandan tribal cultures. Gerrald depicts this tradition by painting the women in the foreground to represent present day mothers while those in the background are meant to symbolize previous generations of mothers who passed on their maternal wisdom and customs to their daughters and grand-daughters.

This medium/large sized bark cloth painting measures 26" long and 15.5" wide. This is a wonderfully unique, traditional and originally hand-signed by the artist 'Kabuye' painting that will look absolutely amazing in a simple black frame.
