This traditional bark cloth painting entitled "Night Music" is a creation of the artist Gerrald Kabuye from Uganda. Gerrald painted this portrait with orange, white and black colors because of his artistic design to compliment the natural tones of bark cloth. This painting depicts an evening celebration within a rural hut village where the residents have come out to enjoy the music. Gerrald has painted villagers playing a traditional engoma drum, shaking a pair of hollowed out gourds called the calabash filled with dried seeds (similar to maracas), and with a pair of adungus (the stringed arched bow harp) set before them. Each villager is dressed in colorful and traditional clothing and are wearing customary ekinsens skirts of raffia grass (note the white 'feathers' around their waists). Also, Gerrald paints different curved lines within this portrait that are meant to illustrate movement and rhythm while also symbolizes unity and togetherness amongst the villagers.
This extra-large sized bark cloth painting measures 28" long and 17.5" wide. This is a wonderfully unique, traditional, and originally hand-signed by the artist 'Kabuye' painting that will look absolutely amazing in a simple black frame.
