This traditional bark cloth painting entitled "The Child's Embrace" is a creation of the artist Gerrald Kabuye from Uganda. Gerrald painted this portrait to depict the loving relationship a child has with its mother. In this painting, a small child is looking up towards a woman that could be its mother and wraps his elongated arms aroung her legs as well as the legs of a second woman who could also be another image of the child's mother. The child's arms are unnaturally stretched out to symbolize the expression of this child's love and admiration for its family. Gerrald paints this portrait with the typical orange, white and black colors because of his artistic desire to compliment the natural tones of bark cloth but he also sews traditional fabrics into the bark cloth to provide each woman with colorful and traditional clothing.
Artist Gerrald Kabuye paints many of his portraits to depict traditional Ugandan families and in this particular painting Gerrald has illustrated the love and bond shared between a child and its mother in the traditional African family.
This medium/large sized bark cloth painting measures 26" long and 14" wide. This painting is a wonderfully unique, traditional, and originally hand-signed by the artist 'Kabuye' artwork that will look absolutely amazing in a simple black frame.
