This African cowry shell necklace was hand-made by Mahama Zuruka an artisan of the Ga tribal culture from Ghana. Decorated with 60 small cowry shells this necklace is a unique piece. The cowry shell was used as a form of currency between African tribes before the arrival of the European colonial powers and this shell continues to represent the tribal history and culture of the continent and its people. This necklace is an excellent example of traditional African tribal style and artwork.
