This African leather choker was created by Mahama Zuruka an artisan of the Ga tribal culture from Ghana. Decorated with 19 cowry shells this choker is constructed of durable leather and features a unique design with horizontal and vertically displayed shells. The cowry shell was used as a form of currency between African tribes before the arrival of the European colonial powers and this shell continues to represent the tribal history and culture of the continent and its people. This choker is an excellent example of traditional African tribal style and artwork.
